Google Hummingbird has arrived. So, what’s all the fuss and buzz about? Plenty.
Hummingbird has over 200 “ingredients” that goes into his algorithm “recipe.” All webmasters, business owners and search professionals must be up to date on this important Google development.
According to Google, the name “Hummingbird” represents that it is precise and fast. Also,it’s alarming to many that the algorithm update actually occurred about a month before Google actually announced it.
Danny Sullivan, a highly regarded and industry recognized search professional, describes Hummingbird this way:
“Think of a car built in the 1950s. It might have a great engine, but it might also be an engine that lacks things like fuel injection or be unable to use unleaded fuel. When Google switched to Hummingbird, it’s as if it dropped the old engine out of a car and put in a new one. It also did this so quickly that no one really noticed the switch.”
The last sentence of this quote is the kicker. Many businesses have been caught totally off guard by what happened and are scrambling to make corrections.
Professional SEO strategies and programs that were already in place alleviated the situation somewhat, but most importantly are increasingly critical, moving forward.
Conversational search, or voice search, is a now-critical strategy. The explosion of mobile devices has made it even more critical that your content is compatible with this aspect of search engine friendly content.
