Gateway Counseling works to take away this fear by providing its clients with a free consultation at the primary meeting. In this session, your therapist will work with you to assess your primary concern and determine a plan based on your comfort level.

Gateway Counseling offers services in:

  • Depression & Anxiety
  • Abuse & Trauma

  • Christian Counseling
  • PTSD
  • Brain Wellness

Healing Through Brain Wellness

Psychological and emotional issues such as ADHD, sleep disorders, anxiety, depression and compulsive behaviors can be explained by an imbalance in brain neurotransmitters called neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are the brain chemicals that communicate information from our body through our brain. Out-of-balance neurotransmitters lead to negative effects in mood, sleep, and physical health. Many counseling centers seek to fix these emotional responses with medications, and while they do work to regulate the brain’s imbalances, they don’t address the underlining issue.

Gateway Counseling takes a brain wellness approach to healing that addresses physical imbalances while taking into account the underlining issues. After testing for neurotransmitter imbalances and deficiencies, Gateway Counseling will develop a treatment regimen to correct imbalances and treat underlining causes. Instead of strong medications, Gateway turns to amino acids to provide optimum brain wellness.

Why Amino Acids?

Amino acids are used as an alternative to psychotropic medications. They are precursors to neurotransmitters and converted by the body into the Serotonin and Dopamine – two key neurotransmitters in regulating focus and mood. When used correctly, amino acids are scientifically proven to help individuals form a strategy natural to the body and beneficial long-term.

Couple’s Counseling

Research shows that many of today’s most commonly practiced relationship techniques only work to add further distress to a relationship – not help it heal. Gateway Counseling offers a unique approach to couple’s therapy that brings to light both you and your partner’s relationship challenges, as well as its strengths. Healthy relationships receive nurture through a healthy balance of dependence and independence, through meeting your needs and those of your partner. In couple’s counseling, partners will identify their attachment styles and what wounds they are triggering in their partner. Once this is identified, couples will then use reparative behaviors to transform what were once traumatizing moments into moments of healing.

Christian Counseling Services

When seeking counseling services, clients not only want their spiritual beliefs heard, but incorporated into their therapy treatment. Both Dr. John Hawkins Sr. and Dr. John Hawkins Jr. are practicing Christians who not only accept the beliefs of their clients but believe failing to do so would deny a key ingredient in treatment. Hawkins and Hawkins take their respect toward a client’s principles seriously and believe that failing to help a client explore their faith or impelling their beliefs on a client are both are violations of the therapeutic relationship. Many of Gateway Counseling’s clients seek them specifically for this level of faith-based and clinical professionalism.
